Who is

Ilona Bastos?

I was born in the 29th of October 1959, in S. Paulo, Brazil.

When I was three months old I sailed across the Atlantic Ocean, in a transatlantic liner, with my parents, my baby sister, lots of diapers and baby's bottles.

We arrived in Lisbon, the beautiful capital of Portugal, in a January sunny day. I was wrapped in a yellow blanket and I liked the city very much.

For some time my family lived in Marinha Grande, in a nice house near the pinewood. But when I was two years old we settled in Lisbon.

I lived my childhood in Lisbon, with my parents and my two sisters, until it was time to go back to Brazil.

We lived for almost two years in the wonderful city of Rio de Janeiro.

In those days I had two dreams: to be a teacher and to be a writer.

In order to realize my first Dream I studied.

In Icaraí, I attended the Course for First to Fourth Grade of the First Degree Teacher's Training, and studied Educational Orientation and Teaching Practice.

In order to realize my second Dream, I wrote.

I was so happy when I received an honourable mention in the essay competition and when a short story I had written was published in a newspaper! The story's name was "Secret Mission"!

When we came back to Portugal I changed my mind and decided to study Law in the University of Lisbon.

I finished my degree in the Law College in 1983.

Now I am a lawyer in Lisbon.

But my Dream of being a writer never left me.

So I published poems in the JL newspaper and in the Contemporary Anthology of Portuguese Poetry , vol.X, Editorial Minerva.

In 1998 I published a children's stories book: THE ASTONISHING STORY OF THE DINOSAUR IN DAIPERS and other mysterious tales, Editorial Minerva.

Between October of 1998 and January of 1999, I published several short stories in the Sesame Street Magazine:

"A Menina-Alfacinha" (The Lettuce Girl), "A Partida" (The Joke), "A Chuva" (The Rain) e "O Eléctrico de Natal" (The Christmas Trolley).

I hope you like these anecdotes of the Giraffe Scientist!

See You!
